Bridal beauty timeline: what to actually do 6 months out
The month-by-month plan Delhi brides wish they had started earlier — when to book the trial, when to stop experimenting with colour, when facials help and when they backfire, and the two things you should never do in the final fortnight.
Almost every bridal disaster we see is a timing problem, not a talent problem. Someone tried a new treatment too close to the date, or booked the trial after the lehenga fittings when there was no room left to change anything. Here is the schedule that works, counting backwards from the wedding.
Six months out
This is the only window where you can still change something big. Cut, colour direction, a smoothening treatment, starting a dermatologist-supervised skin routine, or a hair-fall workup with actual blood tests — all of it belongs here. If you have thought about going lighter, do it now, because getting from black to a warm brunette takes two or three sessions spaced six weeks apart.
Book your makeup and hair artist now too. In Delhi, the good ones are gone nine months ahead for a November or December date.
Four months out
Start the boring maintenance. Fortnightly facials, but stick to one clinic and one protocol — the switching is what causes reactions. If you are doing laser hair reduction, sessions run four to six weeks apart and you need at least four for a visible result, so this is your last honest starting point.
Second colour session if you are going lighter.
Three months out
Do the hair and makeup trial. Do it in the same light you will be photographed in, with your hair the length it will actually be, and take photos on your own phone rather than the artist's. Every artist's phone flatters. Ask for the look to be held for six hours so you can see how it settles in Delhi humidity.
Two months out
Final colour refresh and your last significant cut. Nothing new after this point — no new actives, no new brands, no new clinics. If a treatment is going to break you out, you want that happening now with time to recover.
One month out
Trim only. Keep facials to hydration and gentle exfoliation. Stop retinol two weeks before the date if you use it, and stop any at-home acid peels entirely.
The final fortnight
Two things to never do: a new facial and threading of the eyebrows by anyone other than the person who normally does them. Both cause the two most common last-week problems, redness and an eyebrow shape you did not ask for.
The week itself
Blowdry and hair spa three days before, not the day before — day-old hair holds a bridal set far better than freshly washed hair. Manicure and pedicure two days before. Sleep, water, and no experiments.
What to carry on the day
Blotting papers, a travel hairspray, safety pins, your own lipstick for touch-ups, and a phone charger. Every bride forgets the charger.
